I got a lot of models off Ebay which I have attempted to strip using Mr. Muscle Kitchen Cleaner (alternative to Fairy Power spray apparently). After leaving them soak for a couple of days I proceeded to scrub them but found the paint very difficult to come off. I've gotten to the stage where 85% of the paint has been removed. Is this a normal result when stripping models? i.e. is it usual/unusual to strip all of the paint off? Thanks for the help

You should use detoll the brown liquid solution (I think its antiseptic). Depending on whether the models are plastic or metal you should have great results in a weeks worth of soaking (I have only stripped metal though). Hope it helps. |

We just use cheap Methylated Spirits. Leave to soak for half a day then scrub off paint with a hard toothbrush. Works pretty well. You have to scrub pretty vigorously though. Just test Meths on a piece of sprue to make sure its the right type and doesn’t melt the plastic. Works for metal and plastic, but never try it on Finecast. Makes it all rubbery.  With experimentation on pieces of sprue, you should be able to find something that works. |

The Dettol way works brilliantly, if you follow the method correctly. To add to this I will warn you the house will stink and small black flecks will get everywhere, so get some decorators wipes to clean down right afterwards ( isopropyl alcohol as main ingredient) learn from my mistakes here. viewtopic.php?f=100&t=30056&p=385954&hilit=+dettol#p385954 |

On plastic I use dot 3 brake fluid, i scrape it off finecast (don't try it!) |

@John Wayne Thanks for the advice, I'll try pick some brown dettol up today and test it out I only soaked mine for two days so maybe that was a factor.@Elladan & Elrohir Interesting reply, I must give that a go at the weekend. I'll definitely test it on a sprue first, some of those spirits can be very strong! @Gene Parmesan Cheers, I'm going to give the brown dettol method a go. lol the smell is my main concern, I'll probably do it out in the shed! I'll check out that thread also @a Hobbit Thanks for the advice, lol I don't think I'd have the precision to scrape it off finecast

Dettol is definitely the way to go in my experience - in most cases the paint just slides right off, sometimes after just a day of soaking. Having said that, I have had rare cases with Dettol where a few stubborn spots of paint remain even after days of soaking and repeated scrubbing. |
